carson poetzl inc.

in 2002 arizona architects andrew carson III and jon poetzl formed their architecture firm carson poetzl inc. with a rich history in high-end custom residential architecture, carson and poetzl collaborated to continue and commemorate the values and traditions set forth by their former mentor, the late george christensen.
every project they create is beautifully tailored to their clients’ desires and the site’s landscape. their recent redesign ‘echo canyon drive’ perfectly shows this off. the older sante fe style home was brimming with rounded corners and parapet walls however the homeowners yearned for a modern home with modern amenities. creating an open floor plan was the key to their modernization success. by removing some of the walls and supports as well as raising the ceilings an updated home was born (the new doors, windows, hardware, furniture, and appliances didn’t hurt either). next time you think of the grand canyon state, think carson poetzl inc.

i would especially like to thank jon poetzl of carson poetzl inc. for submitting this marvelous transformation. the after photos were shot by the talented michael baxter of baxter imaging.

boyish sophistication

i like to think that when depeche mode wrote ‘just can’t get enough’ they wrote it about my obsession with amoroso design’s transformative projects. today shelly and her design team are sharing their project ‘boyish sophistication’ with us. this san francisco family home turned bachelor pad exudes an air of masculinity. inspired by a classic brooks brothers suit, the home’s hues include charcoal, camel, gray, and crisp white. “and i just can't get enough, i just can't get enough”.

i would once again like to thank ms. abby stopper for submitting amoroso design’s dazzling renovations. the after photos were shot by the accomplished photography firm reflex imaging.

the 'heart of telluride' penthouse

hold onto your ski cap because you’re about to go on the renovation ride of your life. nestled in colorado’s san jaun mountains lies the historic jewel-box town of telluride. cozily tucked on its celebrated main street sits the 'heart of telluride' the ultra-luxury lodging property.
owned by katrine and bill formby, the 'heart of telluride’ boasts two rental dwellings, a one-bedroom condo and a three-bedroom penthouse. previously a hodge-podge commercial building the formby’s dream of creating luxury amenities in their favorite vacation location came true upon the completion of its extensive renovation.
and a renovation completed without the use of bold colors, antler chandeliers, busy prints, predictable architecture, uncomfortable scale or anything jarring that screams “look at me, i’m a decorated mountain condo with southwest d├ęcor.” architect lynn taylor lohr and interior designer kari demond transformed the mishmash of a building into a true mountainside retreat.
with the highest and largest penthouse deck in telluride the three-bedroom beauty features 360-degree views, antique beveled windows, stone veneer walls, venetian plaster ceiling, douglas fir beams, and so much more.
i was planning on calling the 'heart of telluride’ perfect until i read its guest comments. former vacationer greg mink of indianapolis found three problems with the accommodations, “one, your pictures (as good as they are) do not do this place justice. it is truly more incredible than it looks on the web. two, my wife has told me she is not leaving the penthouse. ever. so this may be a problem for your future bookings. three, my wife has also announced that we are replacing the floors in our house with these floors. this long weekend is going to end up costing me a fortune! your place puts even the finest to shame. really well done. way exceeded my expectations.”

i would especially like to thank diane purcell of through the lens management for introducing me to the 'heart of telluride’ and its lovely owner katrine formby. diane provided thomas mcconnell’s stunning after photos and a wealth of renovation information. ms. formby shared her love of telluride and her gorgeous property with me, even contributing some recent snowy photos. head to theheartoftelluride.com to drool over more stunning pictures and make your reservation now!
