as i mentioned on 19 april, if i could bottle up interior designer molly frey's aesthetic, i would. her interiors make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, especially today’s marblehead massachusetts kitchen and family room remodel.
as you can see in the before photos, the family room had an entire wall of dated cabinetry with an off-center, mirrored fireplace. as a symmetrical designer, frey created fireplace flanking built-ins and a bar near the kitchen to alleviate the dreaded asymmetrical wall.
she stripped the kitchen of its dated generic cabinetry and designed the lightest, brightest, and airiest cookery ever. with gorgeous white cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and a farmhouse sink to write home about, frey has designed the ideal new england kitchen.

evanston modern historic

julia buckingham edelmann, co-author of the witty design blog material girls and principal of the north shore chicago firm buckingham interiors + design llc, has designed the quintessential family home in evanston illinois. her modern take on traditional design combines all things urbane, antique, and natural. today’s feature is no exception. the dated historic home received a thorough redesign. originally full of fussy decorations and a behind the times color palette, edelmann introduced a new scheme of modern hues, materials, and fixtures. the revamped residence perfectly captures the spirit of buckingham interiors + design llc, and acts as a model home for raising an evanston family.

adams morgan living room

paul corrie, washington dc interior designer extraordinaire and master of the tone-on-tone palette, has created my dream living room. previously a mish mosh of a space, corrie reigned it all in to create a room that is inviting, comfortable, and reflective of the homeowner’s eclectic personality.

by specifying a soft, neutral color for the walls and a dazzling white for the window trim and crown molding, corrie has enhanced the architectural elements throughout. also by installing a dramatic lantern, linen and velvet upholstery, and a turkish oushak rug, corrie introduced the perfect blend of understated hues. the cherry on this living room sundae is the artwork collage. corrie collected the already framed pieces from various walls of the client’s home to fashion a combination that not only works together, but creates a domino-esqe focal point.

the california family room

on 13 april we got a backstage tour of interior designer sheldon harte’s home. today we’re getting an exclusive peek of his take on the quintessential california family room. harte brownlee & associates created the fresh, modern family room for the 2009 philharmonic society house of design. with a dramatic furniture plan and an extensive texture palette, the room is chock full of faux shearling, textured tree bark, hair hide and suede. the mediterranean styled irvine home now has hottest family room in california.

greenwich village townhouse rehaul

i'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that every manhattanite dreams of residing in a spacious new york city townhouse. especially one like today's renovated greenwich village stunner. the rundown home was entirely rehauled by the amazing architectural firm, spg architects. due to the deteriorating structural condition of the residence an extensive demolition was necessary. beyond that the interior layout was majorly modified and modernized with the intention of re-orienting the space towards the rear garden. the exterior was spruced up as well, the front facade was restored in accordance with local landmark requirements while the back was built anew with glass, steel, and cement board infill panels. hello manhattanite dream home.

swee10

as an extreme before and after enthusiast, whenever i discover a new source of transformations i feel like a kid in a candy shop…pumped and on a sugar high. so when jean brownhill lauer, founder of swee10 emailed me i was elated. swee10 is an amazing brooklyn based website designed to connect homeowners and contractors. at swee10 owners are able to post planned renovations and have contractors bid on them, answers questions, and save everyone time and money! like yelp, but even more thorough, and geared toward home construction.
enter today’s redone space, the former maid’s quarters in jean’s brooklyn brownstone, and the project that triggered the creation of swee10. by removing the back closet and unused staircase and adding two windows and built-in bookcases, jean created a room that is large, bright, and full of character. the renovation only involved painstakingly working with six subcontractors! after construction wrapped, swee10 was born.

happy earth day!

happy 40^th earth day! in honor of the environment loving holiday we’re featuring a niche interiors transformation. jennifer jones, founder of niche interiors, is a certified green building professional and is committed to making as small an environmental impact as possible. her tiny footprint was perfectly put to use in the recent transformation of a north beach san francisco bachelor pad. by specifying simple furnishings, warm hues, and contemporary artwork, jennifer has fashioned a home filled with continuity. the soft neutral palette creates a relaxing environment while complementing the classic architectural detailing throughout. what more could a san francisco bachelor ask for? with a hip environmentally friend pad, he’s sure to have dates lining up at his door.
