2010 dc design house, guest sitting room

the 2011 dc design house is in full swing, if you’re on the east coast and can easily get to our nation’s capital, i recommend popping by for the tour before it shuts its doors on may 8. brimming with talent, each room boasts redesigns from talented professionals like barbara franceski, dc design house veteran. this year franceski is in charge of the family room, but last year she made over the guest sitting room, today’s featured raenovation.
conceived as a haven for an out-of-town guest, the sitting room is a wonderfully pared-down mix of modern and classic. the muted color palette combines with the room’s playful textures and patterns and acts as the perfect background for the trendy original screen print entitled “gaggle” – a delightful caricature of birds. my favorite feature is marcel wanders’ skygarden suspension lamp; the smooth glossy exterior of the pendant perfectly suits the delicate plaster relief work on its interior. i also really dig the contrast of the hairy cowhide tub chairs next to the plaid tufted loveseat. washington dc, here i come!

the 2011 dc design house is located at 3134 ellicott street nw, and will be open through may 8; proceeds benefit the children’s national medical center. the lovely barbara franceski of barbara franceski llc provided the goods for today’s makeover, with after photos by raenovate favorite, angie seckinger.
