may is my favorite month. when i was little i chose it as my most preferred month because my birthday is may 6, but as i age that has less appeal. i now enjoy the fifth month most because of the blooming kousa dogwood in my front-yard, mother’s day, and the san francisco decorator showcase. each year i have the good fortune of featuring before + afters from the city by the bay’s designer showhouse, and 2012 is promising to be an impressor!the first showcase space comes to us from heather hilliard, designer of the master bedroom. upon entering the boudoir you immediately feel as if you’ve stepped into a serene art installation. with horizontal painted stripes on the walls, a camouflaged upholstered headboard, david nash’s wooden sculpture, john lyle’s brass fire screen and vladimir kagan’s kidney shaped sofa, hilliard curated a minimal space with a focus on surface. this is already shaping up to be the perfect may.

the 2012 san francisco decorator showcase house is located at 2020 jackson street and will be open through may 28. proceeds benefit the financial aid program at san francisco university high school. the lovely heather hilliard of heather hilliard design provided the goods for today’s makeover, with after photos by, michele lee willson photography.
