when blogger dorie understiller bought her home in mesa, arizona, it had seen better days. the previous owners had a crazy cakes renovation imagination and had wildly transformed the 1916 bungalow into a mishmash of design styles. fortunately the understiller family was able to see beyond the ugly and go back to craftsman basics.amongst dorie’s mile long renovation list she reopened the original wraparound porch, demolished the awkward u-shaped island of a kitchen and replaced the front dormers and balcony with a single perfectly scaled gable dormer. her 2,700 square foot, 3 bed, 2 bath home is now historically and aesthetically the happiest little craftsman i ever did see.

i would especially like to thank dorie understiller of tuesdays with dorie for submitting her kick butt mesa craftsman renovation.
